The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History is proud to announce its official designation as a Purple Heart Clinic, a significant milestone in its commitment to honoring and serving the military and veteran community. The formal designation ceremony, set for Thursday, November 9th, will be a solemn occasion attended by esteemed guests, including Skyler J.E Barker, Commander of the local Military Order of the Purple Heart 598.

About Jim Skyler J.E Barker:

Skyler J.E. Barker was born in the small town of Longview Washington nestled near Mt. St. Helens and the Columbia River. Upon Graduation from high school, Skyler was hired as a Wildland Firefighter. During this time, he fought several wildfires across the State of Washington as an Engine Operator, Line Crewman, and 2IC. He also conducted a high angle rescue of a downed firefighter battling a fire in Eastern Washington State.

After serving as a Firefighter/Wildland Firefighter for approximately 4 years, Skyler served in the United States Marine Corps. During his eight plus years as an Active Duty Marine Infantryman, he graduated as the Class Commander from formal schools, Corporals Course, graduated top of his class from Infantry Squad Leaders course. Completed Jungle Warfare School, Cold Weather Survival Course Mountain Warfare Training Center, Completed Combat Hunter which is a tracking, surveillance and counter surveillance course.

Currently Skyler has continued his service with the Corpus Christi Police Department for approximately 10 years. Currently, he is assigned to the crime reduction unit. This is an elite unit dedicated to finding long term solutions to quality of life issues and aggressive pro-active policing to catch violent and repeat offenders. Skyler is also currently serving as a SWAT Operator and Explosive Breacher, Honor Guard, Field Training Officer, Peer Support and Crisis Intervention Team. Durning his 10 year Skyler has also served with the Gang Unit as a Warrant Task Force Officer and later as a Gang Investigator.
